Congratulation Timo Schönegg

IEEE Best Conference Paper by a Young Author Timo Schönegg

We are happy to announce that our paper "Global Path Planning for Autonomous Vehicles in Orchards and Vineyards", by Timo Schönegg, Turcan Tuna, Fan Yang, Gabriel Waibel, Matias Mattamala, and Marco Hutter, has won the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society Poland Chapter’s award for the external page Best Conference Paper by a Young Author at the 13th International Workshop on Robot Motion and Control (RoMoCo'24) in Poznań, Poland.

The conference was a great place for us to exchange ideas with other researchers on the challenges of path planning in complex environments. The open and warm atmosphere of the external page RoMoCo conference fostered new friendships with colleagues from around the world and inspired new ideas for further research.

Our external page paper, resulting from the research of the Lonomy project, contributes to the field of autonomous agricultural robots by presenting a novel global path planning approach for complex environments such as orchard and vineyard fields, with further potential applications in forest and search-and-rescue scenarios. Lonomy focuses on autonomous solutions for vehicles in the complex environment of orchards and vineyards and builds upon the RSL's 2020 focus project, Rowesys, which developed an autonomous weeding robot.

The paper was presented by Timo Schönegg, who won the award specially designed for a young researcher under 30, representing the whole team. This award underscores the innovative research at RSL and highlights the practical applications and real-world impact of our robots.

We look forward to seeing how our research drives the exciting field of agricultural robotics forward.
